From my article last December:

“All in all, we don’t see any huge problems with the chickens,” Missoula County Animal Control Supervisor Ed Franceschina told me this week. Franceschina’s records show a total of just 14 complaints about chickens in the last year.

"The Children" are the two buzz words the wackos use to try to push every thing they want regulated to death. "The Children" this "The Children" that. I have a suggestion, keep "The Children" out of other peoples chicken coops and you will not have to worry about "The Children".

as HJOHN has the so called facts that the fire was a mile from the end of the road??????? the cat and truck were within 100 yards of the fire and the frenchtown fire truck was setting across the draw from them for most of the day. Oh by the way this is on vidio tape for any one to look at. OPG of missoula is at it the same as always, they are having Waldron enforce opg and his laws that they made up to make more money for themselves and show that they are more powerful than us normal people. Waldron started out at frenctown as a decent person an then got a big head and thought he was GOD and still does. The OPG is the same treating the people of Missoula county the same way and if you argue with the they send you a threatening letter they are turning you over to the county atty. office. It would be nice if we had some some tax payer payed people in Missoula that had to pay for their own lawyers and we the people could use the county attys. office that WE pay for.

Interesting post. Would you mind getting into contact with me, I've been thinking about writing a news story about this issue for a class I'm in and I think your insight would be helpful.
P.S. Sorry I have to get in contact with you this way, I couldn't find any way to do it privately.

Let us assume that the statement "I filed 20 of the complaints myself" is not hyperbole.

Truly I am please to have a watchdog such as yourself protecting our children from the sort of frightful upbringing I endured growing up on a farm. Exposed to poultry on a daily basis my parents risked my health by forcing us to have fresh eggs every morning and chicken for lunch or dinner on a regular basis. Why the fats and cholesterol from farm cooking alone! How did I ever survive?

And the mess from chicken droppings! Oh, sure, they were contained in their 'yard', and I was only exposed if I entered the fence. But surely they were more dangerous to me than all of the dog droppings Missoula kids face today whenever they visit one of our urban parks. I'm amazed I made it out of childhood alive.

Please! Keep up the good work filing those complaints!! It's great the know that the People have spoken, all three of you. (Assuming that the other two complaints didn't come from your partner or something...)

What "threat to the health of...children" do the chickens pose? I'm just curious. We're way out in the boonies on private property with our chickens, but they certainly don't have any adverse affect on our child or us. What conditions about these birds in your area are unhealthy? Are people not following the rules laid out by the permits, or are the permits not in-depth enough as far as regulations go?

Are you three totally nuts?

With all do respect. I can understand it doesn't hit close enough to home, Bob. But think of all your neighbors who value those public lands, and the existence of those bear populations. Without being on the endangered species list, it allows one fewer reason to not re-zone, develop, or build on many areas where wildlife concerns now stand in the way. You want that to happen in the Yaak?

I have to take issue with you on this. It's really coming from the slogans and industry lines of the past. Jobs, logging. That's the old economy guys. The new economy is about restoring and preserving those lands to put good jobs on good landscapes. With good animals too.

It's not in my back yard. I could care less.

Bears. Logs.

Not on Beckwith.

Personally, I've got Mount Sentinal right there. Why would I give two hoots about a bunch of woods I can't even see in my Nikon rangefinders?

I take stands for back yards. Not the back 40.

I have the facts...and more so than you. This fire was a mile or more from the nearest road. There was only one staff member and one engine on Seeley Lake. All the rest of the staff were availble. This fire started on state land not in our district. All staff members responded with equipment. Chief Waldron was the first on scene according to the 911 recordings. I guess I am wondering how you know more than the fire investigators that ruled this a lightning strick fire near the top of the ridge, and by the way Frenchtown Fire was not the investigators. And why do you say they turned down help...nothing is futher from the truth. Chief Waldron was begging for resources and if memory serves me right there were other fires that took prior over a small fire in the top of a ridge....such as Seeley Lake was burning up and many more prior fire in the state. I am also a tax payer and I guess you may have a huge ranch or something and pay alot of taxes, but I pay less than $150.00 a year for fire protection and I consider that no more than the beer my husband drink in a month.

To get back to the Evaro Station and no equipment...there too you need to get the facts...there is a new engine as we speak at FRFD station 2 in Evaro, and may i say with no volunteers in the Evaro area for responce that new truck will just sit there. Maybe your community should think about volunteering and go through the training that is needed to fight these fires. The unacceptable part of this whole thing is the community bitching about not having equipment in a station in an area that have no volunteers.

What is wrong with a man that has been a Fire Chief for 20 years recieving alittle praise for a job well done, or GLORY as you call it.
